4.0 out of 5 stars RIDE ON!, May 15, 2007
By

This review is from: Confidence Fitness Space Saving X Bike (Sports)
After considerable research, I decided on this bike for the following reasons:

1. Amazon reviewers rated it highly.
2. Portable and foldable... takes up a small amount of space.
3. I didn't want to spend a fortune in case this turns into a clothes rack in three months.

PROS:

1. Easily assembled... my husband and I put this together in about 30 minutes.
2. Virtually noiseless. If you live in an apartment or with other people, they'll never know you're using it.
3. Smooth pedal movement.
4. Easily reachable tension adjustment.
5. Monitor will continuously scan all the modes (time pedaling, distance travelled, MPH, calories burned) or you can fix it on one mode. Display is rather large and easy to read.
6. Easily moveable between rooms.
7. Great price for a folding bike.

CONS:

1. *HARD* seat... I'm buying a gel pad.
2. Unlighted monitor. In a dim room, it's very hard to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good beginner bike, August 26, 2008

I bought this bike after reading all of the other reviews about it. I found all of the critiques to be accurate (it's a little small for anyone over 5'10" and the shipping is pricey). My biggest complaint about the bike, though, is the tension setting. Only a couple of reviewers made any mention of it. I've used the bike several times and I have to set it to the highest tension to get a decent workout. I'm a bit disappointed that I don't have anything to work up to - and I'm even not an avid biker or exerciser! I'm 34 in good health and participate in low to moderate physical activity. I do not recommend this bike to people who are looking for gym-quality exercise bike. However, this is a great bike for people who are looking to get a little cardio exercise at home or who may be just getting back into exercising/physical activity.

5.0 out of 5 stars great bike, November 18, 2006
By

This review is from: Confidence Fitness Space Saving X Bike (Sports)
I am enjoying this bike a great deal. It doesn't take up too much room, although the "stow away" aspect of it was not as impressive as I was hoping--when you fold it up, you save maybe 1 foot of room. But that's okay because it's still a pretty skinny device. I keep it in the closet and roll it out every day--I wouldn't say it's light (it's about 40 lbs) but it's not hard to maneuver. Assembly was not that difficult. All in all, a great bike for getting some exercise while doing other things (I watch TV, read, or play a game on my Nintendo DS).

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was hoping it would be, April 3, 2007
This little exerciser fits right under my desk, and when it's on its mat, it does not move around on the floor (wood) at all. The noise level is pretty quiet--just a low-level ssssss, but I work at home, so I'm not sure how it would play in a cubicle setting. It was easy to assemble.

I, too, found that the tension setting doesn't make much of a difference, although it got a little tighter with more turns that I would have thought necessary. But sitting here pedaling away for a half hour felt like it lasted about a minute as I surfed and worked and allegedly--according to the calorie counter--burned about 250 calories. I did break a sweat in my air-conditioned livingroom. I expect to find myself pedaling off and on all day without even thinking about it, and I don't have to leave my work and carve out a half hour or an hour to get in a bit of daily exercise. That leaves me all the more time for my kids and family time when everyone gets home from school and work... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, needs more tension, July 25, 2006
By
Linda Martin (La Porte, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Nice compact unit that fits well under my desk so I can justify the long hours I waste online. It's replaced my footstool and I find myself pedaling subconsciously - probably a good thing. My only wish is that it had more tension, as it seems to go quite freely no matter where I set the tension wheel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike for the price, May 24, 2007
Like this little bike a lot. It's sturdy and lightweight. Able to fit under a desk. Does not move around when riding on it. The tension knob does not really increase the tension to much but, its enough to impact your workout.

About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

  • Recumbent exercise bike with ultra-quiet magnetic resistance system
  • 8 resistance levels with adjustment dial; comfortable step-through frame
  • Easy-to-read monitor measures time, speed, distance, and calories
  • Tough tubular steel frame; sturdy pedals with secure foot straps
  • Measures 58 x 38 x 24 inches (W x H x D); 1-year frame warranty

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Phoenix 99608 Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
The bike shipped promptly, was easily assembled by my husband in about 30 minutes, and is everything the other reviewers says it is. It is SILENT, even when I'm biking fast (well - fast for me is 20 miles an hour). It is built well and seems very solid, although you can move it around a room pretty easily. It does not wiggle or bounce you, which makes it nice for reading. It is also nice that the controls do not block your view to the television. The calorie counter is not accurate. It shows the same number burned in my first 30 minutes at 20 miles per hour, as it does for my second 30 minutes at 15 miles per hour. I still gave it 5 stars though, because without knowing your weight and body fat percentage, no machine will accurately tell you the calories burned. I got rid of an elliptical trainer to buy this, because in order to go fast enough to get a good cardio workout on the elliptical I had lots of hip joint and knee pain - not so initially, but my body adjusted and I... 3.0 out of 5 stars Great for casual exerciser, September 6, 2008

This review is from: Phoenix 99608 Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
Overall the product is well built and can easily handle the advertised 250lbs. However, if you are on the high end of the weight scale and in some form of reasonable fitness the maximum resistance will not be enough for you.

After having a few upright bikes I can say that this reclining model is much easier on your back and wrists. The padding on the seat does leave a little to desire, but it's easily bearable for 1hr rides.

All needed parts were included and it went together in about 30 minutes.

Like everything else in the world you get what you pay for. The computer frequently will not turn itself off even after hours of non-use. The dial to adjust the tension broke after the first day (springs back to max resistance when you set it). You can get around this with a little bit of tape to stick it where you want it. Realistically though, you won't be using this bike on anything but the hardest setting - so it's not that much of an impact for... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes life a little bit easier, November 26, 2007
This review is from: Phoenix 99608 Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
This bike isn't noisy, nor does it take up a lot of space. I actually use it without the handle bars, which makes it even more compact. I also end up moving this bike around a lot (I'll move it near my computer to watch a movie, or closer to a light to read), and have had no issues- it's not as heavy as one might expect from an exercise machine.

I've had no problems with the time/distance attachment on the bike; it's very accurate. Just be careful, because the little box will fall if one knocks it by accident. Also, it's helpful to have two people when adjusting the length of the bike, I found it difficult to push together on my own. My final comment and reason for the 4 stars (not 5): Don't expect to spend more than a half-hour at a time on this bike, the seat isn't really cushioned for long usage... and it's really not super-comfortable in general- however, it is easy to add some pillows here and there.
